Finding Silence: Siberia

2014

Russia is interesting because under communism religion and spirituality were squashed, so visiting there now feels like a new growth forest. Like it’s springtime and things are green and poking out. Orthodox monks and nuns, and the profound wisdom of the Jesus prayer they taught me. Buddhist monks, including a 200 year old mummy. Shamans on the plains, communing with their ancestors in secret caves. And the 5 day horse trek through the mountains to find the holy man living in an oil drum at the foot of Mount Belukha, who showed me how prayer is better than xanax any day. And more.
